So here is why I write what I do: We all have futures. We all have pasts. We all have stories. And we all, every single one of us, no matter who we are and no matter what’s been taken from us or what poison we’ve internalized or how hard we’ve had to work to expel it —— we all get to dream. About This Quote

We all have futures. We all have pasts. We all have stories. And we all, every single one of us, no matter who we are and no matter what’s been taken from us or what poison we’ve internalized or how hard we’ve had to work to expel it –– we all get to dream.

The author of this quote, R.H.Wingo, without a doubt is one of the most prolific writers in the world today. His works span across genres and he has won numerous awards for his writing ability during his lifetime. Perhaps you’ve heard of him before but not known his name.

For the sake of not repeating himself, I will provide a brief description of Wingo’s life and success: He was born in Louisville, Kentucky and attended college at Ball State University where he received a degree in journalism. While at Ball State he worked as a sports correspondent and became the first African American to write for the school newspaper. After college he went to work for two different newspapers and also worked as a sports writer for The Associated Press.

In between his work as a journalist, he worked as an actor in several films and television shows that featured African American casts. In 1950 Wingo published his first book titled “The Thrill Is Gone” which was published by Bantam Books and became a best seller in both paperback and hardcover formats. He would go on to publish more than 50 books throughout his lifetime including novels, short story compilations, memoirs, biographies and even children’s books about various topics ranging from space travel to geology.

Wingo was also a prolific short story writer whose 100 short stories have been published posthumously in 20 volumes by New York publisher Putnam Publishing Group called "Rising from the Ashes." This extensive body of work is well worth looking into if you are interested in Wingo's writing style because it includes stories written from several different genres including crime fiction, romance novels, historical fiction and memoirs among others making it easy to find something that will appeal to your tastes.
